Jamtlandsdrall aka Crackle Weave is an elegant weave structure when woven with fine materials. If you are able to weave Overshot, you can certainly weave Jamtlandsdrall. Generally both structures are woven on four shafts and both use the same tie-up. Both are also two shuttle weaves; a shot of tabby alternates with a shot of pattern weft.
That is where the similarities to Overshot ends. Overshot pattern blocks have skips or floats varying from two warp threads to where the floats are over an inch long. In Jamtlandsdrall, a three thread float is the rule.
Participants will weave on a 4 Shaft Glimakra counterbalance loom for this class. The project will be beamed, threaded, sleyed and tied-on prior to your arrival. As a class, we will complete the tie-ups together. The warp for this elegant piece is 24/2 Egyptian cotton; the pattern weft is 16/1 line in a range of colors; the tabby weft is 24/2 Egyptian cotton; and 1161 warp ends measure 72.5cm/28.5" on the loom. Depending on skill levels, students should be able to complete one stunning table square during the class.
Each day we will spend time at the classroom table studying:Block weaves - Jamtlandsdrall is a version of Point Twill
